WALLAROO RESIDENCE

On the edge of Canberra, DNA Architects craft a luxury modern farmhouse that embraces its rugged environment.

LUXURY MODERN FARMHOUSE

The residents' design brief to DNA Architects spoke of their appreciation for the home's rugged surroundings and desire for it to be reflected in a project that also catered to contemporary family life. The architect's solution was to create a modern farmhouse–style luxury home, reflected in its traditional pitched roof, and explored through a considered range of natural materials throughout its interiors.

SPATIAL BEAUTY

Oriented towards the south, the footprint is composed of shallow floor plates that allow light to enter from every direction. The architects installed glazing in large, adjacent planes to frame the view and create a more direct experience of the surrounding environment. In addition, several internal courtyards were integrated into the spatial plan, establishing outdoor areas that are sheltered from the wind and other natural elements.

SEAMLESS INTEGRATION

To accommodate the dynamic nature of family life, DNA Architects specified a suite of appliances from Fisher & Paykel. Refrigerator–freezers, DishDrawers and CoolDrawers were all invisibly integrated into the smooth timber joinery that flows through the space. On the kitchen island, a Full Surface Fisher & Paykel Induction Hob nods towards a sustainable lifestyle, and enables multiple pans to be warmed at once. In the laundry room, four large–capacity Fisher & Paykel Washer Dryers inject a sense of efficiency into domestic processes.
